Lighthouse Field State Beach

This lighthouse is actually a surfing museum and memorial to Mark Abbott, a surfer who died in the waves nearby. (Open 12 to 4, Thursday thru Monday; in winter, 11-4 Wed., Fri. and Sun.) From the bluffs here you can watch the surfers and surf kayakers in Steamer Lane. You can also see sea lions and sea otters who feed on the abundant sea life of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, the nation's largest marine sanctuary (5,322 square miles).

The southern arc of the Circle Trail passes Lighthouse Field. There are numerous small beaches between Lighthouse Point and Natural Bridges, great for sunning, surfing, and sand castle construction. There are restrooms with showers at the south end of Lighthouse Field and also at Natural Bridges.
